SUMMARY:
The Integrated Preschool School Special Education teacher provides a preschool experience for students with IEPs and typical peers five days per week. Students with disabilities attend 5 full days and typical peers attend 4 mornings per week. The preschool classroom provides instruction to meet the needs of the students with disabilities in the classroom, provides discrete trials for students in the afternoons, evaluates students as part of the IEP process. The classroom is supported by 3 to 4 support staff based on the needs of the students. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst provides consultation to the classroom along with related service providers. A Severe Special Education licesne is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Design and carryout developmentally appropriate motivating curriculum/programming as warranted by IEP goals/MA curriculum framework for preschool
- Implement behavior and incentive plans and maintain data to support children’s behavior and social emotional needs.
- Guide classroom support staff in implementing activities that support student goals and other areas of need and in collecting data.
- Provide direct individual and/or group instruction through inclusion and/or resource models
- Conduct thorough educational evaluations, developmental assessments, and/or progress monitoring necessary for quarterly progress reports, annual assessment and re-evaluations
- Support the transition of students within the classroom and building by using positive behavior supports, visuals, and developmentally appropriate interventions.
- Implement treatment protocol and appropriate therapeutic strategies established in children’s treatment plans, IEPs, and individual support plans
Qualifications:
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field
- MASS DESE Certified; Moderate disabilities K-12, Severe All levels preferred
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building.
- The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs. (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.).
- The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools.
- Occasionally s/he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer).
- In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction.
- The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent of Schools in conjunction with the HEA/HSC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
WORK YEAR:
- 10 months, 183 days
- 2 personal days, 12 sick days, prorated pursuant to date of hire

This is a salaried position distributed over 26 paychecks including a lump sum in June to cover summer pay
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the appropriate administrator in accordance with HEA/HSC Collective Bargaining Agreement and DESE regulations, 603CMR35.00.
