Summary:
Under the direction of the Principal, the ISEL, serves as an instructional leader in the planning, and coordination of school activities and programs, including curriculum, instruction, assessment, student conduct and attendance, and extracurricular programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of intervention programs that address the needs of high-risk students, ELL, IEP and 504 students

MLSS: L1.4, L1.5, L2.1, L2.2, and works closely with school Teacher Mentors, along with District MLSS Coordinators, in providing support for these intervention programs.
  • Assists the Principal in providing instructional leadership to the school. MLSS: L2.3
    • Model instructional practices in the classroom setting for teachers that incorporate researched based pedagogy in common core areas, differentiated instruction or intervention, and as needed work with students to model this instruction.
  • Supervises a school wide positive behavioral system (PBIS, PAX, CKH, 7 Mindsets, Restorative Practices, Etc.) which demonstrates and reinforces student behavior to support learning and foster a positive school environment. MLSS: L1.2. Such systems will include Social Emotional Learning (SEL) MLSS: L1.9. Culturally and Linguistically Responsive support for all students. MLSS: L1.8.
    • Leads interventions in academic instruction of Layer 1, Layer 2 and Layer 3 MLSS: L1.3, L2.2, L3.1.
    • Develop and implement ongoing student programming that supports Project Based Learning (PBL), student engagement, is both fun and builds community, and includes development of community partnerships to foster student and family support.
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with parents regarding upcoming student programming and events.
  • Target Behavior Interventions: making referrals to school counselor or social worker for small group or individual interventions with Parental/Guardian notice and consent forms.
  • Complete duties (hall, bus, etc.) as assigned.
  • Monitors and organizes attendance functions such as attendance and tardies; prepares administrative letters, calls parents, and attends meetings such as SAT, 504, IEP (as ISEL not LEA) and conferences, provides leadership for attendance improvement.
  • Provides input on Next Step Plans, ELL Individual Education plans and ELL monitoring plans.
  • Provides SEL support and strategies to a variety of faculty, student programs and services.
    • Oversee the assignment of students to advisory groups (middle school).
  • Maintains current knowledge of the District's adopted curriculum.
    • Serves as SAT/504 Chairperson and provides guidance to teachers regarding these processes.
    • Provides PD training to the instructional staff, parents & community members relating to ISEL topics.
    • Supports the instructional staff with ISEL lessons in the classrooms.
    • Provides & communicates referrals for additional ISEL support to counselors, social worker, behavioral health, etc.
    • Conducts interviews, surveys, and needs assessments to students and parents.
  • Completes time and effort documents for Federal Programs.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of NM PED SEL framework.
  • Establishes and maintains productive, collaborative relationships with others.
  • Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out positive and effective behavioral intervention programs.
  • This position is not responsible for student discipline.
  • Models District's standards of ethics, confidentiality, and professionalism. Meets schedules and deadlines.
  • Plans and organizes work.
  • Analyzes and interprets assessment results for the purpose of assisting staff in designing and modifying instruction.
  • Follow through with directives in a timely manner.
  • Performs a wide variety of specialized tasks: interprets and applies rules and regulations as appropriate.
  • Applies knowledge of school law and district policy.
  • Applies knowledge of best practices in curriculum, instruction and assessment and methods of supporting and extending instruction and student learning.
  • Creates an environment where children from diverse backgrounds are comfortable and experience success.
  • Builds positive relationships with families.

Required Qualifications:
  • Valid New Mexico Educator's License
  • Master's Degree with Level III or Level II with at least 5 years experience
  • Able to obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate

Physical/Job Requirements:
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, driving a vehicle, traveling long distances, writing, typing, word processing, reading, researching information, and effective communication skills.
