Job description

Qualifications: As set by state certification authorities: Elementary Certification and the Gifted and Talented endorsement and/or Gifted and Talented Certification (G/T Certification preferred). Such alternatives to above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports to: Coordinator of the G/T Program and Chief Academic Officer
Job Goal: To help identified students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Cooperates in developing a program of continuous progress consistent with district goals and objectives to address the learning needs, interests, and abilities of Gifted and Talented students.
  2. Keeps abreast of changes and district policies and students' needs and interests.
  3. Establishes clear and appropriate objectives for all classroom activities and communicates these objectives to students.
  4. Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate and best practice for meeting stated objectives for multiple elementary grade levels.
  5. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  6. Analyzes progress of individual students on a regular basis and seeks appropriate assistance as needed.
  7. Collaborates and cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods in a team teaching approach
  8. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of pupils.
  9. Travels between schools as needed.
  10. Administers testing for South Carolina Gifted and Talented State identification as needed.
  11. Provides adequate plans for substitute teachers and evaluates their performance.
  12. Seeks to inform and assist parents through oral or written communication and/or home visits.
  13. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  14. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  15. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students and to properly care for all property, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  16. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
  17. Is punctual and responsible in performing all duties and activities as assigned.
  18. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life, conduct and behavior in a fair and just manner.
  19. Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning,
  20. Participates in school or district staff development programs as assigned by G/T Coordinator, principal, or superintendent.
  21. Attends staff meetings, serves on staff committees as requested, and accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular or other activities as assigned by school principal or superintendent.
  22. Performs other duties as assigned by the lead G/T Coordinator or Principal.
  23. Works with others consistently in a cooperative and respectful manner.

Terms of Employment: 190 Days
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in compliance with the Board's policy on evaluation and professional personnel.
