Grade Levels: 10th - 12th Work Location: Richmond Technical Center Immediate Supervisor: Principal Qualifications: Must hold or be eligible for Technical Professional License and/or Virginia Collegiate ProfessionalLicense with career and technical education endorsement in trade and industrial education. Must have the FederalAviation Administration (FAA) Aircraft Mechanic certification and FAA 107 certification (for Unmanned AircraftSystems). Must be highly competent in all areas of Aircraft Mechanic with at least two years or 4,000 clock hours ofexperience within the past five years.
A minimum of two years Aviation Maintenance Technology teachingexperience in a technical school setting for a large urban school system is preferred. Must be able to review, reviseand develop curriculum to meet industry standards. Must have the knowledge and experience of systematicallyplanning, executing, and evaluating individual and group instruction and effective organization and management oflaboratory instruction.
Excellent oral and written communications skills and ability to work independently required.Must have the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships and work in a cooperative andcollaborative manner with administrators, supervisors, co-workers and parents. Must be knowledgeable of creative,innovative, nontraditional teaching strategies that have proven successful with students from diverse backgroundsperforming at different academic levels. Some experience with Microsoft Word and Internet and Intranet access isrequired.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Develops a program to provide students with hands-on experience to performbasic functions in Aviation Maintenance and flying drones. Ensures that students develop the skills and understandingto work successfully with related tools, equipment and certification for employment in an entry-level position.Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement on a regular basis, and modifies instructionas required. Develops in each student an awareness and understanding coupled with the basic skills and knowledgeapplicable to the Aviation Maintenance and Unmanned Aircraft Systems trades.
Instills in each student safe workinghabits, the importance of continuation of his/her education and the development of successful work ethics. Mustsponsor and manage an active and challenging student organization program that integrates with the VirginiaDepartment of Education specific course curriculum. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at thetimes designated providing individual and group instruction to assigned students.
Maintains accurate, complete andcorrect records as required by law, division policy and administrative regulations. Prepares lesson plans, organizesmaterials, develops tests and worksheets, supervises assigned students and implements instruction according tocourse curriculum. Compiles with and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
Attendsand participates in faculty meetings and other professional meetings as required. Cooperates with other members ofthe staff in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods. Accomplishes reasonable special assignments asassigned by the principal.
Assists the school administration in the selection of instructional materials and equipment.Provides for own professional development through an ongoing program of study. Must attend all mandatorycertification programs or conferences to main industry certification in the program. Performs other related duties asassigned.
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK: Duties performed typically in a school setting. Performsprofessional work providing teaching and/or training services to students in a specialized subject. Work requiresfrequent standing, sitting, walking and light lifting up to 30 pounds.
Vocal communication is required for expressingor exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparingand analyzing written or computer data.
