GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
To perform journeyman-level electrical work in state-owned and leased buildings, in order to provide a safe, well-maintained, and comfortable environment for state employees, visitors, and the general public.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment, emergency maintenance, and testing on electrical components, emergency generators, non-interruptible power supplies, HVAC/Refrigeration, fire alarm system, direct digital controllers, programmable logic controllers, card access, and security system installation.
  • Access and program specialized control and automation systems to determine problems, correct problems, or make changes to operating programs.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, or replace electrical equipment found faulty during testing, including electrical motors, variable frequency drives, magnetic starters, main/secondary circuit breakers or panels, fuses, and service disconnects.
  • Work with other specialized technicians testing and repairing fire sprinkler systems, halon systems, FM200 systems, pre-action fire sprinkler systems, or HVAC/R systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, or replace security system hardware, including electronic card readers, electronic door strikes, electromagnets, cameras, motion detectors, and proximity sensors.
  • Replace light bulbs, ballasts, low and high-voltage switches, electrical receptacles, GFCI receptacles, heat tape, electrical switchgear, and specialized electrical components.
  • Responsible for reviewing electrical design, installation, alteration, troubleshooting, repair, and inspection of main and branch circuits of interior and exterior electrical systems.
  • Repair power distribution, transformers, emergency generators, and other miscellaneous electrical components.
  • Monitor electrical systems and make modifications to balance electrical loads.
  • Perform all work to the current National Electrical Code (NEC) or applicable International Building Code (IBC).
  • Access work orders daily and input work information on an assigned tablet daily.
  • Perform planning, estimating, and commissioning new construction and renovations of electrical systems and equipment, requiring being directly involved in calculating and balancing three-phase panel loads.
  • Read electrical blueprints, diagrams, wiring schematics, and other drawings.
  • Compile documents, analyze test data, and perform electrical calculations to determine the source of problems and the corrective actions to take.
  • Use various electrical test instruments to determine power requirements and availability.

PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to those applicants with a Journeyman level licensing and must be able to show the licensing in the State of Wyoming.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of basic electrical, refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning, and welding theory.
  • Knowledge of the application of electrical and other test equipment.
  • Knowledge of the electrical trade's tools, materials, methods, and practices.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Knowledge of state and federal electrical codes.
  • Knowledge of safety work standards, electrical theory, thermal imaging and vibration analysis theory, electrical construction and maintenance practices, electrical materials and products, fire alarm systems, motor controls, emergency power systems, and power distribution systems.

Journeyman's Electrician License

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Working in and out of doors presents many different working conditions (snow, rain, wind, as well as dust and dirt).
