This position is a member of our Waste Permits Division.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a part of the division's Waste Permits team, our Geoscientist I will play a key role in achieving TCEQ's mission. You would use your skills and experience to:
- Review and evaluate permit applications, reports, certifications, and other submittals for waste management, including regulatory classification and status of waste pursuant to state and federal regulations and statutes for the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) section in the Waste Permits Division for the TCEQ.
- Conduct geoscientific and other technical review and evaluation of complex applications, report and plan pertaining to waste management; determine compliance with applicable laws, rules, technical principles, policies, and procedure; and processes to completion.
- Provide information concerning authorizations and authorization process to internal and external customers through verbal communication, correspondence, meetings, presentations, and public hearings.
- Assist customers regarding the agency's waste permits program through verbal communication, correspondence, data reports, presentations, and responses to Public Information Request.
- Facilitate or assist with training, mentoring, and providing geoscientific and regulatory expertise to team/section/division and agency staff. Lead and/or participate in special projects, such as maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidance document development, and streamlining work process.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG).

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES
This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Geoscientist I-III state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Geoscientist I-III series.
