The Tax Associate will provide support in all areas of income taxes here at Huhtamaki, including the US income tax provision, tax compliance, taxing authority examinations, research projects, etc. The Tax Associate will also provide support to the state and local tax specialist for sales and use tax return preparation and property tax compliance. The Tax Associate reports directly to the Sr. Manager of North America Tax.
Key Responsibilities
- Primary responsibility for US federal, state and local income tax compliance, including tax return, workpaper preparation, extension filings, quarterly estimated payments, audits, and fixed asset reconciliations.
- Support the forecast of taxable income for purposes of making federal and state estimates to the taxing authorities
- Assist in research, documenting, and maintaining tax matrix of all tax filings
- Provide support on tax examinations initiated by various jurisdictions
- Participate in tax planning with the goal of minimization of corporate exposure on all forms of taxation
- Investigate and resolve tax notices received
- Quarterly and Year-end Close
- Assist with quarterly and year-end tax provision process, including calculating book/tax differences, analyzing effective tax rate, etc.
- Manage journal entries and account reconciliation for tax related accounts
- Other
- Assist with preparation of state and local sales/use tax returns for multiple operating business units, ensuring timely and accurate filing.
- Assist with preparation and filing personal property tax returns for major plant facilities
- Manage non-income-based tax compliance
- Support other departments with entity related matters, such as business licenses, clearance letters, etc.
- Contribute to and take an active role in continuous improvements and automation initiatives
- Prepare reports/analysis and participate in other projects as needed
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accountant, Finance, Business, or related field
- 2 plus years of relevant tax experience, including a combination of public accounting and corporate tax experience
- Experience with consolidated and multistate corporate income tax compliance.
- Experience with related tax compliance software (OneSource Income Tax or similar).
- Working knowledge of tax law.
- Working knowledge of tax accounting concepts
- Fixed Asset/Depreciation background
- Master’s degree in Tax is a plus
- CPA is a plus
- Strong hands-on skills, oral and written communication, good listening skills, and excellent attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and work well under pressure.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Experience with entire Microsoft Office Suite products with an emphasis on advanced Excel data management functions
