PAY RANGE: Tax Accountant I: $51,000 - $63,700
Tax Accountant II: $62,300 - $77,900
Sr Tax Accountant: $79,100 - $105,400
Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Additional hours as required)
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Contributes to the overall effectiveness and operation of Tax Department. Acts as key facilitator of tax returns and ensures their timely filing. Maintains Tax Exempt certificates for Sales Tax Team. Provides support to Property, Sales & Use Accountants with all returns as needed. Acts as tax Department liaison to both internal and external customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage customer tax exemption certificates in a timely and efficient manner to ensure compliance with KS and MO rules and regulations.
• Responsible for all aspects of W-9 request and related correspondence.
• Assist in preparing yearly Tax Department budget and monthly department expenditures analysis including creating the monthly variance report for Tax Director.
• Assist Director, Managers and all other department personnel on special projects/audits as needed.
• Act as liaison by providing information to internal and external customers, directing inquiries to Tax Accountants, Managers and Director as needed.
• Manage Tax Department Storage, retrieval, and record retention process.
• Coordinate filing of all tax returns which includes processing tax payment request with Accounts payable, attaching appropriate documents with tax returns, timely mailing returns to taxing jurisdictions.
• Work with outside vendor on unclaimed property spring and fall compliance, by providing stale check and customer credit information from Evergy's billing system.
• Assist with the annual property tax compliance process check payment and bill validation.
RESULTS EXPECTED
• All tax returns are assembled and filed in a timely manner.
• Check request are timely processes and matched to the correct tax remittance.
• Sales tax exemption certificates are kept current and maintained in a manner to support the audit requirements
• Monthly budget variance analysis is completed timely and accurate manner.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Accounting or Finance Degree required. 1- 10 years' experience account/tax role with corporation or state agency preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
• Ability to multitask and prioritize projects
• Expert in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently

Working Conditions:
Office environment with both in office and remote working conditions, currently in office Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, remote the rest of the week.
