DESCRIPTION:
Under direction, drives a truck with tandem/dual rear axles, to transport materials, equipment or people.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday; hours of operation vary by department and are set by contract. Overtime schedules vary with weather and special events. Must we willing to work overtime when directed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drives trucks with tandem/dual rear axles to pick up, haul, and deliver materials.
- Receives written and/or oral assignments and drives trucks of various types including trucks used for road maintenance and construction work, snow plowing and ice control work.
- Assists with the repair and installation of snowplows and spreaders.
- Picks up, loads truck, and delivers materials of various types.
- Performs minor repairs and adjustments on truck.
- Supplies trucks with gas, oil and water, keeps garage clean and in order, and keeps records of trips.
- Checks, cleans, greases, washes, and performs the required adjustments to trucks and other auxiliary equipment
- Collects, loads, and unloads, with and without assistance, various types of equipment, furniture, garbage, trash and other materials and delivers same by truck to specified destinations.
- Operates snow removal equipment to keep roads clear.
- Maintains records of receipts, deliveries, fuel consumption and mileage traveled as requested.
- Drives truck equipped with dump body to transport and dump loose materials such as sand, gravel, and bituminous paving material by pulling levers and turning crank to tilt body and dump contents.
- Inspects truck prior to operating for proper amounts of fuel, oil and water and to see that tires are inflated and that lights and brakes work properly.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- One year of experience in driving a truck with tandem/dual rear axles and auxiliary equipment, such as, snow plow, salt spreader, power take-off, winch and lift body.
- Appointees must possess a Class “B” Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake Endorsement.
· A High school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
· Must be available to work for prolonged periods and/or overtime during emergencies such as snowstorms and other weather-related events and remain on the job until all repairs have been made.
· Have general experience of and be able to drive and operate snow plowing equipment. Including but not limited to hydraulic actuated plow blades mounted to various truck bodies.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to independently lift objects up to 50 pounds.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of standard methods, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
- Ability to perform manual tasks individually and as part of a team.
- Must work well with other co-workers.
- Need to have a professional demeanor when addressing residents and our public.
