Job Summary:

The Systems Effectors: Processing, Guidance & Control Center is responsible for algorithm development including Guidance, Navigation, and Control; radio frequency (RF) and electro-optical/infrared (EO-IR) Signal Processing; and missile-and-sensor-level Modeling and Simulation for Raytheon's broad portfolio of projects, programs and products. In the GNC department, we design, integrate, and optimize guidance, navigation, state estimation, and control algorithms to meet mission objectives. We support new business initiatives and help develop & execute technology roadmaps.

Our Systems Organization is hiring for a Senior Principal Engineer to perform in the role of Systems Performance Engineering (GNC) Subject Matter Expert.

This position is in Tucson, AZ.    This position is an onsite role.


Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • You will define and shape future capability roadmap and performance capabilities for new business capture and adjacent mission areas and technology.
  • You will respond to requests from external customers as prioritized by the Program Management Office and the Office of the Chief Engineer.
  • You will propose and execute trade studies that align with the technology and capability roadmap.
  • You will work with embedded software including real-time GNC algorithm development for missiles system products.
  • You will influence through technical leadership the system performance product teams of about 25 engineers that provide GNC and signal processing algorithms, 6DOF modeling and simulations, mission planning, and performance analysis through several contracts
  • You will collaborate with the member of the OCE on the technical maturation plan across the program lifecycle.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of Systems Engineering experience on flight vehicles.
  • 4 years of experience in at least two of the following: digital and modern control systems, dynamics, Kalman filter design, trajectory optimization, or Monte Carlo analysis.
  • 3 years of experience with system level performance trade studies
  • Experience with Matlab, C, C++, and/or Object Oriented design
  • Active and transferable Top Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in STEM. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
  • Experience with Unix and/or Linux operating systems
  • Experience with missiles, gravity bombs, or autonomous / collaborative air vehicles
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate activities across multiple facilities and locations.
  • Results-oriented work ethic and able to communicate effectively with senior leadership and other engineering disciplines.
  • Capture effort coordination and developing proposals to obtain funding, spanning technical proposal development, work breakdown structures and cost estimation.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team
  • Current DoD Top Secret clearance
