General Description / Primary Purpose:

As a member of the Digital Strategies & Technology Team, this library faculty position is responsible for the support, development, enhancement, and integration of library systems and technologies in support of teaching, research and services needs of the library and university community. The Systems Librarian supports innovative spaces in the library, and enhances the functionality, accessibility, and effectiveness of the Thomas G. Carpenter Library’s website. This position ensures successful collaboration with the university’s Information Technology Services (ITS) and other campus partners to provide systems, technologies and spaces that advance library strategic goals and enhance user experience. At the state level, works with the Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC). The Systems Librarian works under the supervision of the Head of Digital Strategies & Technology and provides supervision to the Library Systems Specialist and student assistants.

Job Function:

· Collaborates with library colleagues in the selection, development, implementation and education of library systems and technologies in support of instruction, research, access, digitization, collection management, discovery, and Special Collections.· Enhances the functionality, accessibility, and effectiveness of the website, including overseeing content development and design.· Assists in the support and enhancement of a suite of applications comprising the library services platform, digital repository, and Springshare products.· Oversees library systems issues to ensure they are resolved promptly.· Oversees technical support for innovative spaces in the library such as the Virtual Learning Center (VLC) and Recording Studio. Works closely with the Virtual Learning Librarian and Information Technology Services (ITS) to maintain and enhance these spaces and provide training and assistance in the use of the equipment.· Collaborates closely with colleagues throughout the library, ITS and other campus partners on library systems, technologies, and services. At the state level, works with partners such as the Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC) who provide systems support.· Assists with collecting and analyzing data derived from library systems.· Prepares and maintains departmental documentation for new and existing procedures and processes. Provides library systems training to library staff and the campus community, as needed.· Serves as liaison for assigned academic department(s). In collaboration with teaching and research faculty in the colleges, develops select areas of the library’s subject resources by identifying and selecting new materials for the collection and by evaluating existing materials for possible withdrawal from the collection. Engages with departmental faculty to better understand and meet their library needs, develops collegial partnerships, and promotes library services and resources.· Contributes to overall collection development through participation in the evaluation and development of the collection and in the review and selection of library resources as appropriate.

Faculty Position Required Qualifications:

· Master of Library Science from an ALA or equivalent accredited program.· Knowledge of and experience in supporting library-specific applications, software (e.g., OpenAthens, Tipasa, and Springshare products), and equipment (e.g. Audiovisual, Recording Studio).· Experience in the deployment of information technologies relevant to website design and maintenance (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, etc.).· Ability to learn, use and continually adapt to new technologies.· Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time effectively with minimal supervision.· Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Departmental Requirements:

Preferred:
· Professional experience in an academic library.· Working knowledge of digital repositories (e.g., Digital Commons) and Ex Libris’ Alma library services platform and Primo VE discovery service.· Working knowledge of immersive technologies, including virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).·Knowledge of standards and best practices for web accessibility and ADA compliance.· Experience with training and instructing others in the use of library systems and technologies.
