JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of power system simulation training used to improve the individual and organizational performance of ERCOT control room operators. Maintains familiarity with current ERCOT systems, protocols, operating guides, and procedures and applies operational knowledge to the development of training scenarios. Develops new software tools to facilitate and improve the delivery of simulation training as needed. May conduct classroom training for ERCOT system operators.
JOB DUTIES
Level 2

  • Responsible for the analysis, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of training and seminars as well as the educational and training materials used to support system goals and operational objectives
  • Develops, designs, and maintains Continuing Education Hours for simulator, classroom, and on-the-job-training
  • Develops and implements classroom training
  • May design, develop and maintain scenarios for use in simulator training
  • Provides training for staff on processes, operating and market systems, programs, and developments
  • Employs systematic methodologies in the creation and delivery of classroom, simulator and on-the-job-training materials
  • Develops and maintains ERCOT System Operating Procedures to support system and market changes, compliance with NERC Reliability Standards, Protocols and ERCOT Guides
  • Prepares progress reports for management.
  • May evaluate staff response during simulator training
  • Performs the duties of an ERCOT System Operator as required
  • Ability to qualify as an ERCOT System Operator on at least one control desk within one year

Training Specialist, Sr.
Includes all job duties and tasks at the Training Specialist level in addition to the following:
  • Develops requirements for changes to the simulator to train the operators on new EMS/MMS changes for reliability and market needs.
  • Demonstrates expertise in grid applications, Market applications, simulator, and other training tools.
  • Serves as an OTS Subject Matter Expert for ERCOT
  • Makes independent decisions except in unusually complex scenarios.
  • Works on projects requiring an in-depth analysis of variable factors and is able to develop creative and effective solutions.
  • Lends professional and technical expertise to guide projects and mentor less experienced personnel as assigned by management.
  • Pursues innovation in technology and methods to continuously advance and improve the delivery of training.
  • Periodically responsible, as assigned by management, for leading the design, development, implementation, and coordination of individual training cycles including.
    • The quality and content of material in the cycle
    • The coordination of SMEs and Training Specialists used in executing the training cycle
    • The incorporation of both classroom and OTS material
    • The support of NERC Continuing Education criteria and NERC compliance documentation as required

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science or a related technical field or a combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with knowledge equivalent to a major in such a field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE
Training Specialist Level 2 Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years (in excess of the degree requirements stated above) of applicable experience in System Operations, System Operations support, or EMS/grid application development and support.

Training Specialist, Sr. Level Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years (in excess of the degree requirements stated above) of applicable experience in System Operations, System Operations support, or EMS/grid application development and support.

Certifications & Licenses, all levels:
  • NERC Certification strongly preferred. If candidate is not NERC certified, a certification must be obtained within 6 months of start date.
  • ERCOT Certification preferred and must be obtained within 1 year of start date

Position is open to a Training Specialist 2 or a Training Specialist, Sr. depending on the level of the candidate that is identified.

Expected Salary Range:
$107,494 - $182,737
