SYEP Specialist
Reports to: Program Director
Location: 132 32nd Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232 - Must be able to travel between sites
Program: Brooklyn Community Services- Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)
Status: Full time, Temporary - 6 months only April- September
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday -Flexibility to work mornings, afternoons or evening hours
Salary Range: $18 per hour - $21 per hour
The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation's largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer. The SYEP Specialist will be a part of the SYEP program that works closely with BCS staff to provide young people with training in practical, hands-on, and relevant work-readiness skills and how to identify and leverage opportunities as they arise.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with participant recruitment and application completion.
- Assist with worksite pre-assessment visits and confirming participant work assignments,
- Conduct worksite visits to ensure both participants and worksite supervisors are supported
- Assist with SYEP Orientation
- Data entry and answering phone inquiries from participants and their parents/guardians
- Multi-site flexibility and demonstrated ability to problem solve
- Other tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school Diploma and some college preferred
- Experience working with students of varied ages, levels, and diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Strong background in youth development
- Demonstrated organizational skills required; proven problem salving and interpersonal skills; proven ability to work with multiple deadlines and multiple priorities
- Must be flexible, enjoy working with at-risk young adults and have strong initiative to work in a team.
- Proficient in basic computer applications (Outlook, Word, Power Point).
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Flexibility to work mornings, afternoons or evening hours
