Job description

TITLE:Career and Technical Sciences Teacher (Digital Communication Technology)
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must be certified as a Business/Marketing Education, Technology Education or Skilled & Technical Sciences (STS) in Web & Digital Communication/Visual Arts teacher by the State of Delaware Department of Education.
  2. Bachelor's Degree in Digital Media, Digital Production, Digital Design or other area associated with Digital Communication Technology from an accredited institution or other Department of Education approved equivalent.
  3. Prior experience in creation of visual content using electronic tools and media, applications of HTML, XML, Javascript, graphics applications and other tools to design/edit/publish digital content.
  4. Thorough knowledge of Internet theory, web page standards and policies, elements of web page design, vector tools, special effects, e-commerce tools, and emerging web technologies.
  5. Ability to coach, model, and build the digital creation and communication knowledge and skills of students.
  6. Excellent organizational and management skills
  7. Excellent oral and written communication, facilitation, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
REPORTS TO: School Principal (or Assistant Principal)
LOCATION: Lake Forest High School
JOB GOAL: To develop in each pupil an insight and understanding of industry and its place in our society; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the technical fields; to develop practical problem-solving skills related to the materials and processes of industry; and to develop in each pupil skill in the safe use of tools and machines.
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Teaches skills and knowledge in one or more state approved vocational courses in the Visual Arts Pathway to secondary pupils, using the Digital Communication Technology (DCT) Program of Study adopted by the State of Delaware Department of Education.
  2. Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  3. Develops lesson plans and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities can be accomplished within the allocated time.
  4. Demonstrates digital design and production equipment, tools and processes, using standard teacher-prepared instructional aids.
  5. Guides pupils in selection of appropriate elective projects or experiments.
  6. Maintains an auditable record of student attendance and makes daily reports of students absent each period.  Assigns citizenship and scholarship marks.
  7. Instructs pupils in use of industry-based software and programs used in the creation and production of digital media.
  8. Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property.  Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to hardware as needed.
  9. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil conduct needed to provide an orderly, safe and productive environment in an activity-type classroom with many potential hazards.
  10. Keeps informed of the digital community's job entry requirements and instruct pupils in the rudiments of getting and retaining these jobs.
  11. Evaluates each pupil's performance, knowledge, and skills.
  12. Selects and requisitions instructional aids and equipment; maintains required inventory records; makes purchases as authorized.
  13. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities.
  14. Communicates with parents and school counselors on the individual pupil's progress.
  15. Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  16. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  17. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  18. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  19. Organize and coordinate a Pathway Advisory Committee per Federal Perkins requirements.
  20. Actively participates in the District's CTE Advisory Committee to engage the community in the development and review of CTE programs.
  21. Participates in ongoing professional development specific to CTE programs as required by Perkins grant.
  22. Serves as advisor to the Technology Student Association.
  23. Other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor that pertain to vocational education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The Digital Communication Technology (DCT) program of study is a three (3) course Career & Technical Education (CTE) instructional program of study that requires students to apply the skills and tools of digital designers used in graphic design, pixel-based imagery manipulation, HTML coding, digital video production, vector image manipulation, digital illustration, and digital publishing.  Students utilize strategies to solve open-ended problems while learning how to apply technical skills, creative skills, industry knowledge, documentation techniques, and processes using modern, industry-leading technology and software.  Client-based learning experiences and industry-mentored projects introduce students to a wide array of related careers in public relations, marketing, web and Digital Communications and printing.
