Job Responsibilities 100% - Essential Job Functions Swim Instructor Duties Respond to requests, inquiries, and complaints in a cooperative manner that ensures customer satisfaction and provides excellent community relations. Notify the Swim Lesson Program Director or Manager on duty of patron misconduct.

Report any staff on-the-job injury or patron injury to the Swim Lesson Program Director or Manager on duty and/or Human Resources. Retain by memory details of the Emergency Action Plan and implement it during emergency situations. Exercise proper, calm judgment when dealing with situations that require immediate action.

Exercise consistency in following and implementing Swim Center and City policies. Consistently provide excellent public relations and customer service. Be outgoing and enthusiastic in promoting safety and pool programs.

Meet multiple deadlines and perform multiple tasks under pressure. Work in a multi-task environment. The Swim Instructor is responsible for instructing all swim lesson participants This position is also responsible for the safety of the participant in their own class Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed, and clean up supplies.

Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons Submits completed report cards, skills sheets and attendance information on time Attends mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. Maintenance Notify the Swim Lesson Program Director or Manager on duty of any needed materials, equipment repairs, and any unsafe conditions. Other Essential Job Functions Assist in special events of the Parks and Recreation Department.

Make sure they proceed in a safe manner. Convey a positive professional image by action, communication and appearance. Exhibit regular, reliable and punctual attendance, which is an essential function of the job.

May be asked to teach and assist swim lessons, after receiving proper training. Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities KSA's - Required experience, training, knowledge & skills Experience Previous lifeguarding experience, preferred.

Knowledge Thorough knowledge of swim lesson skills or previous swim team experience. Working with children such as babysitting experience or camp counselor. Skills/Ability to Swim proficiently and teach all skill levels within the swim lesson program.

Effectively use all swim lesson and safety equipment. Manage emergency situations using good judgment to determine proper response. Retain and effectively utilize the Emergency Action Plan, safety rules, City policies and procedures.

Respond appropriately to a stressful or high pressure environment. Handle emergency and non-emergency communication in a calm manner. Manage emergency situations and use good judgment in determining proper response.

Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Effectively speak, read and write in the English language. Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.

Other duties as assigned and appropriate. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Working Conditions Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, long hours including weekends, holidays and some after hours. Subject to sunburn, and other sun exposure reactions.

May be exposed to potential injury from patrons in water emergencies. May require exposure to human body fluids. Must wear a Swim Instructor uniform.

May be exposed to dust, cleaning agents, materials and equipment. Work requires exposure to pool chemicals and pool equipment. May encounter occasional stressful situations.

Physical Requirements Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Lift equipment and a small- to average-size child. Remain in the pool area at all times.

Remain alert, with no lapses of consciousness, in a warm environment with air temperatures of 80 degrees or higher. Recognize distress signals. Support child or adult body weight in the water.

Remain in water ranging from 80-95 degrees for one to four hours. Communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance, in normal and loud situations. Education, Certifications and/or Licenses Required Experience, Training, Knowledge and Skills Complete Swim Instructor Training through the StarFish Swim School.

Age must comply with City's Policies and Personnel guidelines (minimum age is 16.) High school diploma or GED required, or current student status. Proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to legally work in the United States.
