POSITION: Airport Operations Officer

REPORTS TO: Operations & Security Manager and Assistant Manager

LOCATION: New York Stewart International Airport (SWF)

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Airport Operations Officer performs a variety of duties at a general aviation, Part 139 Certified Airport. This position is responsible for ensuring that daily airport operations are conducted in accordance with FAR Part 139 and TSA 49 CFR 1542. This position works under the supervision of the Operations & Security Manager and Assistant Manager, as well as the Senior Operations Officer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for conducting security patrols of the Air Operations Area (AOA), gates, doors or other areas allowing access to the AOA in accordance with 49 TSA CFR 1542 and other applicable publications, and shall assist the New York State Police in law enforcement activities on all Airport property.
  • Monitoring and operating phones, radios, and security camera and gate systems.
  • Manning of Airport Operations Center (AOC) 24 hours a day year round
  • Controls and monitors the Airport’s Access Control System (ACS) and all associated functions, under the direction of management. Investigates all alarms received by the system and takes appropriate actions to resolve issues
  • Provides or ensures provision of escort of unbadged personnel into secured areas.
  • Responsible for maintaining all necessary records and reports; assist tenants as necessary; fire safety inspections for tenants.
  • Issue NOTAMs as directed; coordinate airline gate assignments required.
  • Issues, maintains, and updates Ramp Permits & AOA only stickers for equipment requiring airfield access.
  • Assist with diversion aircraft; monitor terminal activities; notify snow crews during inclement weather; patrol other Airport properties as directed; assist with the Airport Tour Program; maintain knowledge of tenant leasehold areas and responsibilities.
  • Monitors all ground operations on the ramps and ensures that all personnel and vehicles are operating within the constraints of the Airport’s rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for maintaining customer contacts through positive lines of communication.
  • Professionally represents the company through frequent and meaningful contact with the customer.
  • When applicable, certain duties/functions may be assigned to a particular Operations Officer which will become their individual responsibility to perform and/or maintain.
  • Performs other duties as directed by Airport Management.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

An Associate’s Degree in Aviation Management (Bachelor’s Degree Preferred). A minimum of three years’ experience in Airport Operations or an aviation related field is required. A combination of experience and education equivalent to three (3) years may be considered as a minimum qualification. Well qualified candidates not meeting the above requirements will be considered.

Language Skills – Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Confidence in public speaking and giving presentations is mandatory. Competence in foreign languages desired, but not required.

Mathematical Skills – Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and area. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability – Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make assessments, and then formulate well thought out and logical decisions based on FARs and Airport Rules and Regulations in a quick and concise manner – sometimes under emergency and stressful situations. Must be able to exercise discretion and sound judgment in dealing with tenants, airline management, and the traveling public.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and sustain a valid driver’s license in the person’s state of residence.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid New York State Security Guard license.
  • Ability to perform the duties of this classification.
  • Ability to work in a teamwork environment.
  • Strong computer skills with ability to effectively utilize a wide variety of programs (MS Office, etc.), with ability to learn new programs introduced in the future.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Working Conditions – Works rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Is exposed to adverse weather. Must respond to Airport Emergencies. May be required to work mandatory overtime.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
