JOB SUMMARY
This job is responsible for directing the multi-discipline and highly diversified underwriting organization in underwriting quality multi-line commercial business in order to achieve the desired profitability of the organization, ensuring the profitability and growth of the business by product line. Development and execution of the product line pricing, underwriting and risk strategies (across all markets and products) to achieve revenue and profitability target objectives set forth by Highmark Inc. and approved by its Board of Directors. Establish, maintain, and validate the underwriting standards and disciplines of the organization. Work closely with the senior team in collaborating around new partners, external contacts, products and ensuring a profitable portfolio, while developing a culture of commitment to success, continuous improvement and development as measured through employee engagement and operating results.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform management responsibilities to include, but are not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity. Plan, organize, staff, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the department; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and authority.
- Develop and implement strategic objectives, underwriting strategies and best practices by line of business.

- Development and execution of the product line pricing, underwriting and risk strategies (across all markets and products) to achieve revenue and profitability target objectives set forth by Highmark Inc. and approved by its Board of Directors.
- Establish, maintain, and validate the underwriting standards and disciplines of the organization.
- Working closely with the senior team in collaborating around new partners, external contacts (Consultants, Brokers, Clients, Highmark Sales Presentations, etc.), products and ensuring a profitable portfolio
- Develop a culture of commitment to success, continuous improvement and development of talent, nationally as measured through employee engagement and operating results.
