Job description

The successful candidate will coordinate sustainability plans, ordinances, and programs to advance the City’s sustainability, resiliency, and net zero efforts. Coordinates projects related to the City's sustainability and climate resilience programs, acting as project coordinator for efforts such as ordinance revisions, incorporation of sustainability and resilience into relevant plans, coordinating advancement of select objectives and tracking progress.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.   • Acts as project lead for development of sustainability and climate resilience related ordinances, plans and policies
  • Analyzes complex issues; presents findings and recommendations
  • Manages project and program timelines; monitors information; prepares reports on progress of plan
  • Tracks specific performance metrics related to the City's strategic plan, the Sustainability Action Plan and other related sustainability efforts
  • Supports inclusion of sustainability and climate resilience in the City and County Comprehensive Plans and other City, local and regional climate plans.
  • Acts as City point of contact for participation and collaboration with several external organizations
  • Studies and makes recommendations for programmatic improvements and revisions
  • Provides outreach to internal/external stakeholders on sustainability and resilience programs
  • Provides information and assistance to City officials and management, other governmental agencies, and the general public
  • Performs related work as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Public Administration, Urban Planning, or related area of study
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of developing and implementing sustainability and resilience related ordinances, plans and policies or related experience. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for one year of the required experience or education.
Preferences: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credential, or Certified Climate Change Professional (CC-P), or ISSP Sustainability Professional.
Special Requirements:
Non-Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency but may be required to work in some capacity after the declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

HOW TO APPLY/ VETERAN INFORMATION

Depending on the number of applications and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests: Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method. Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify. All successful applicants will be required to pass a medical examination, including drug screening, prior to appointment.
An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes. To obtain veteran's preference, candidates MUST submit a copy of separation papers and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form (J-204)).
