Sustainability Communications Coordinator

Ducks Unlimited, North America’s leader in wetlands and waterfowl conservation, seeks a Sustainability and Corporate Communications Coordinator to engage stakeholders about the multitude of environmental and human benefits our mission provides.

Wetlands filter pollutants from waterways, absorb floodwaters, buffer coastal communities from erosion, refill groundwater and capture carbon. Ducks Unlimited has restored or protected nearly 16 million acres of these wetlands and associated habitats since 1937.

We need a creative, passionate communicator who can give life to these nature-based solutions, someone who can keep pace and support an innovative conservation organization active in all 50 states.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

Lead outreach, promotion and education of Ducks Unlimited sustainability efforts across all stakeholder groups, including:

  • Corporate partners – Effectively promote partnerships between Ducks Unlimited and corporate supporters, meeting strategic partnership goals of all organizations.
  • Media relations – Develop and execute media outreach plan. Build relationships with relevant regional and national reporters to obtain national media placements.
  • Conservation organizations – Collaborate with governmental and NGO partners to amplify messages across multiple audiences.

Lead production of sustainability support materials for all DU divisions, including conservation, policy, foundations, corporate partner development and events-based fundraising.

Work with conservation and digital departments to create engaging sustainability website content.

Assist DU staff with grant proposals, foundation proposals and major corporate funding requests related to sustainability issues.

Produce regular, national social media content.

Produce sustainability articles for Wetlands America magazine and website, Ducks Unlimited Magazine, DU and stakeholder newsletters.

Find public speaking/keynote opportunities for DU staff at sustainability-based conferences, gatherings and expos.

Identify new, innovative communications and outreach opportunities.

Preferred qualifications

Ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience using communications to achieve strategic goals.
  • Five years of experience in communications for large or national organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related program.
  • Proven media relations experience.
  • Proven experience working with stakeholders in remote settings.
  • Proven experience in social media and digital content creation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Photography, video editing experience.

Reporting and Location: This position reports to the Communications Director. Position can be located in the following Ducks Unlimited offices:

  • Ann Arbor, Mich.
  • Bismarck, ND
  • Jackson, MS
  • Memphis, TN
  • Sacramento, CA
  • Syracuse, NY

Candidates must be willing to work hours outside the typical workday and workweek throughout the year. Some overnight travel is required.
