Location: Price, UT or Remote
The Sustainability and Climate Resource Assistant (RA) will work directly for the Ecosystems Staff Officer at the Manti-La Sal National Forest, Supervisors office. The work environment is dynamic and includes working independently, in teams, and in an on-line virtual environment. The RA will help lead the forest in developing and maintaining sustainability, climate, and green team programs. Work will include assisting in developing and compiling information for the region's Climate Action Tracker. Topic areas include vulnerability assessments, climate adaptation, monitoring, carbon, environmental justice, and sustainable operations including energy, water, fleet and transportation, waste prevention and recycling, and green purchasing. The RA will be a point-of-contact online and in person. Outstanding organizational skills are critical. Good writing and computer skills are important, including proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and GIS (Geographic Information System) as well. The RA must be willing to take notes in a variety of meetings in-person and virtually, and able to take a lot of information and condense it into complete, concise bullets. The RA needs to be highly self-motivated and professional, and willing to speak in front of large groups of people. This position will be part of the climate Resource Assistants and specific climate training will be provided to all candidates


Duties:

  • Develop sustainability project goals, objectives, initiatives, or strategies in collaboration with other sustainability professionals.

  • Create or maintain plans or other documents related to sustainability projects.

  • Identify or procure needed resources to implement sustainability programs or projects.

  • Provide technical or administrative support for sustainability programs or issues.

  • Write grant applications, rebate applications, or project proposals to secure funding for sustainability projects.

  • Develop reports or presentations to communicate the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives.

  • Create marketing or outreach media, such as brochures or web sites, to communicate sustainability issues, procedures, or objectives.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents aged 17 and above. Earn a post-secondary degree (associate degree or higher) from an accredited institution of higher education. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Good writing and computer skills. Proficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point, and preferably GIS. Highly self-motivated and professional. Willingness to speak in front of large groups of people.

  • $750 weekly stipend

  • $1,000 monthly housing allowance

  • $2,750 available for Forest Service work travel, orientation, trainings, and professional development opportunities that align with the RA's duties and goals

  • Option for health insurance coverage during full-term

  • Direct Hire Authority Eligibility – after completing minimum of 960 hours, DHA status provides special non-competitive hiring status when applying for Forest Service positions.

*This is a 1099 position. Persons paid on a 1099 basis are independent contractors and are self-employed.
