Description
Fisher Associates, P.E., L.S., L.A., D.P.C., headquartered in Rochester NY, with eight offices throughout NY, PA, and TX, has immediate openings for experienced Survey Party Chiefs across multiple offices, to support our client base in our Transportation, Land Development and Energy Sectors. Our firm is growing, and we are looking for strong candidates who are self-motivated with the ability to work independently serving our diverse clientele.
The Survey Crew Chief is responsible for:

  • Responsible for the crew safety, ensuring all crew members read, understand, and sign the project JSA. Responsible for conducting and documenting daily Tailgate Safety Meetings.
  • Ensures timesheets of all crew members are completed at the end of each day.
  • Follows and complies with client and firm field procedures, to ensure that the field data is in the proper format, considering each job will have its own peculiarities.
  • Communicates daily with Project Managers, Project Surveyors, or other office personnel, providing updates on progress, schedule estimates, and any issues encountered.
  • Attempts to notify property owners before entering on to private property to conduct survey activity.
  • Teaches Instrument Operator how to perform the aspects of their job with which they may not yet be qualified to perform to the standard in which you are performing the survey.
  • Responsible for the safety of the crew, vehicles, and equipment, and the public's interest.
  • Keeps clear and accurate field notes by recording all significant data: the party roster, date, page number, job number, title including job name and description of work, field book file name, data collector number, and the name, arrival and departure time of all sub-consulting support personnel.
  • Maintains neat and legible notes in the fieldbook while distributing copies to office personnel.
  • Keeps project sketches of survey control including overall baseline sketch, tie sketches for each point, dip sketches including size and type of pipes, direction of flow, and structure connections.
  • Performs sufficient control checks in the field while setting new control and verifying existing control.
  • Checks traverse angle closures and level run closures in the field before coming into the office.
  • Ensures that data collectors are downloaded daily using proper naming conventions. Processes data and views in CAD, corrects code errors before passing data on to office staff.
  • Resolve project-related problems.
  • Reviews mapping prior to delivery
  • Effectively coordinate with other sectors and service lines to as necessary to fulfill project needs.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on company-issued vehicle (checking fluid levels, tire pressure, etc.) on a constant basis, and maintains the interior of your vehicle in a neat and orderly fashion.

Supervisory/leadership Duties include:
  • Model standards for professional performance that are in accordance with the company's Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
  • Has authority to direct the survey party.
  • Ability to manage a team across the geographies in which we have staff
  • Oversee the work of teams on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Coordinate and prioritize work of direct reports and team members
  • Set clear expectations and deadlines
  • Provide regular feedback to direct reports both reinforcing positive accomplishments and delivering constructive feedback to support development
  • Act as a mentor to technicians and other less experienced members of the project team

Requirements
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associates Degree in Science of Surveying preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Party Chief
  • Documented experience with conventional, GPS, and data collection survey equipment for construction layout, boundary, as built, and control survey duties required.
  • Active and Valid Driver's license
