Job Description and Profile
The Survey AutoCAD Technician drafts survey documents and interfaces with clients, and field/office personnel. The responsibilities will include reducing field data, performing calculations, copying, and filing collected data. In addition, using Civil3D, the Survey AutoCAD Technician will prepare detailed drawings, maps and exhibits from sketches, point data, specifications, and written and verbal instructions.
Reports to: Director of Land Surveying
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with Project Surveyor or Professional Land Surveyor to create base maps and drawings for residential and commercial projects, including:
- Boundary and topographic surveys
- ALTA surveys
- Final plat maps
- Short Plats
- Binding site plans
- Condominium maps
- Records of surveys
- Boundary line adjustments
- Exhibit maps
- Jurisdictional research of standard plans and notes and details as required for submittal
- Ability to conduct thorough research of legal and survey records to obtain information about property boundaries. This will include researching deeds, easements, vacations, dedications, Right of Ways, etc.
- Reduce and plot field data to produce accurate topographic maps to reflect existing conditions of land surveyed including contours, natural features, roads, buildings, drainage courses, grade breaks, fences and other planimetric items
- Compare survey computations with applicable standards in order to determine adequacy of data
- Compute construction elements including but not limited to grading, roads, utilities, lot corners, native growth areas, easements, setbacks, buildings, and other necessary items
- Manage and organize data incoming from the field including digital data sets, field notes and pictures
- Assist Project Surveyor with preparing drawing and document packages for submittals
- Assist Survey CAD Manager with the setup and maintenance of Civil 3D standards
- Write legal descriptions to state and local standards for easements, boundaries, and rights of way under the supervision of the Project Surveyor or Professional Land Surveyor
- Apply rotations and translations when necessary
- Conduct quality control analysis
- Work with project management and survey team to meet standards, timelines, and budgets
Skills and Specifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of Civil3D and Land Development Desktop (knowledge of
Leica Cyclone, Leica Infinity and Inroads/Microstation a plus)
- Working knowledge of principles and practices of land surveying
- Working knowledge of Leica robotic instruments, GPS, and other survey equipment a plus
- Ability to prepare and manage high quality documentation
- Assist in educating or training staff
- Represent LDC in a responsible manner
- Responsible for being backup drafter for telecom/engineering projects
- Valid Washington driver’s license

Education, Experience, Qualifications
- Associate's degree or technical certification in a relevant field, such as engineering, surveying or construction management, or experience considered sufficient to address the demands of the position
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D (Civil 3D experience required)
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience utilizing AutoCAD with increasing responsibility
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in civil engineering field preferred
- LSIT certification or working toward certification preferred
