Under the supervision and direction of the operating surgeon, upon request, supports the care and treatment of patients in the intraoperative phase of the perioperative experience. Position is executed in addition to current responsibilities of a surgical technologist. As a member of the surgical team, under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse Circulator, maintains the operating room sterile field: passes instruments, sutures, and sponges during surgery. Insures that proper aseptic technique is utilized to prevent contamination and infection. Performs in the roles of first or second scrub as needed. Assists the registered nurse with circulating duties. First Assistants must be expert in their primary and secondary specialties; and are expected to be able to perform proficiently in at least two or more other specialties.

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.

Required Qualifications:
- Completion of approved First Assistant training program or
- Occupational specific training required to perform job
- National Certified Surgical First Assistant - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting upon hire
- National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire
- 1 year experience in acute care or setting
