At Hilo Medical Center, a nationally-recognized "Top Performing hospital is currently seeking a Surgical Technician-Entry Level or Full Performance. This position will be responsible to perform a variety of technical duties as a scrub technician and perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE: ENTRY LEVEL-Experience and Essential Knowledge and Abilities: One (1) year of work experience which involved independently decontaminating and sterilizing instruments used in surgical cases; and setting up of instrument trays. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of decontamination and sterilization procedures; aseptic techniques; universal precautions and safety procedures; maintenance and care of equipment; names of surgical equipment; and the ability to assist in the preparation of surgical patients and assist and participate in the activities of the surgical team.
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED: Graduation from a nationally certified training program for Operating Room Technician, Surgical Technician, or equivalent may be substituted for the experience required for the entry level.
FULL PERFORMANCE - Experience and Essential Knowledge and Abilities: In addition to the entry level qualifications, one (1) year of work experience in a Surgical setting receiving on-the-job training which provided knowledge of surgical procedures and instruments required; and involved applying the knowledge gained by performing as a scrub technician for progressively more complicated surgical procedures. Such experience must also have demonstrated the ability to independently perform as a member of the sterile team which involves preparing patients (i.e., shaving, draping, etc.) and the operating room for procedures.
CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Certification in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Current certification in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is preferred. Please submit copy of certification with the application.

Medical Examination Requirement

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

Shift Details

Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary based on hospital operations. Services are provided 24/7.
