Job Summary: The Surgical Services Nurse plays a crucial role in the operating room, assisting surgical teams in delivering safe and effective patient care. The nurse is responsible for pre-operative and post-operative patient care, ensuring that the surgical process runs smoothly and patients receive optimal care throughout their surgical experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Pre-operative Care:

   • Conduct pre-operative assessments and interviews with patients.
   • Review patient medical histories and ensure all necessary tests and preparations are completed.
   • Educate patients on the surgical process, address concerns, and obtain informed consent.

2. Intra-operative Assistance:

   • Collaborate with the surgical team to prepare the operating room for procedures.
   • Assist with patient positioning, draping, and other pre-operative tasks.
   • Maintain a sterile field during surgery and anticipate the needs of the surgical team.

3. Post-operative Care:

   • Monitor patients in the recovery room and provide post-anesthesia care.
   • Assess and manage pain levels, administer medications as prescribed.
   • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth transition to the post-operative phase.

4. Patient Advocacy:

   • Advocate for patient safety and adherence to best practices in surgical care.
   • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, addressing concerns and providing emotional support.

5. Documentation:

   • Accurately document all aspects of patient care, including assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
   • Ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional guidelines for record-keeping.

Qualifications:

• Current RN license in [State].
