Surgery Scheduler
RESPONSIBLE TO: Administrator, Clinical Supervisor, Physicians
JOB SUMMARY: Act as first assist to surgeon in operating room and assist surgeon in seeing patients in clinical setting.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
· High School Graduate
- Training in medical field
· Training in Orthopaedic procedures is a plus
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- At least two years of experience in a physician office or hospital – surgical practice preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology
· Experience working in an electronic medical record
· Excellent attention to detail
· Excellent organizational skills
· Ability to multi-task
- Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications
- Knowledge of practice management and word processing software
- Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor
- Good communication skills
- Neat, professional appearance
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Job Duties
- Schedules medical procedures for patients with appropriate provider and time/location slot, utilizing appropriate scheduling criteria
· Interfaces with appropriate surgery center and hospital staff to ensure a cohesive working relationship in providing patient care
· Provides accurate, detailed information to patients regarding directional information needed (time/pre-op appointments)
· Ensures patients have proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing as needed
· Completes pre-procedure phone calls and confirms appointment times with patients as appropriate
· Sends required information in surgical packets to patients in a timely manner
· Accurately enters and communicates to the OR team the appropriate surgical procedure and any special equipment or needs that each case requires
· Enter referrals for surgery and obtain pre-certification as needed. Coordinates with pre-auth staff regarding the status of the pre-certification
· Communicates with OAW surgical technologists and medical assistants to ensure a seamless scheduling process
· Assists with scheduling diagnostic and imaging test as when appropriate
Other
- Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
- Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions
· May be asked to assist with coding of surgical procedures and act as a consultant for
coding questions
- Attends annual HIPAA and OSHA training programs
- Attends all regular meetings
- Performs all other tasks and projects assigned by the Manager or physicians

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Typical Physical Demands
· Normal office environment. There are a few physical discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise, etc.
· Minimal bending
· Sitting the majority of the work day
