Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriter Technician to join our Surety team in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, or Philadelphia. Our Underwriting Technician (UT) teammates work directly with the underwriting team supporting production and related underwriting efforts as well as agency and account management activities. We are looking for an individual with both Commercial and Contract Surety experience that strives to exceed customer expectations and is solution oriented; thrives in a highly collaborative team and growth-oriented environment; has a passion for the Surety business and seeks a fun, dynamic work environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Preparing documents and information related to new business opportunities.
• Assisting with agency appointments, powers of attorney, indemnity, and other required agreements.
• Creating and maintaining account and bond files.
• Reviewing bond request forms and supporting documents to calculate and book new, renewal, and bond close-outs.
• Communicating regularly and effectively with broker partners and other BHSI teammates both verbally and in writing.
• Work collaboratively with broker partners and BHSI teammates to reconcile accounting discrepancies.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

• Minimum 3 years Surety experience
• Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Attentive to details.
• Self-starter and comfortable with ambiguity
• Commitment to exceeding customer expectations.
• Proactive and collaborative
• Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word), Web-based, and similar business applications.
