Our client, a manufacturer of branded personal care products for hotels is hiring a Material Planner/Buyer for a contract to hire opportunity.

Experience in purchasing packing materials and chemicals is required.

General Summary

Primary responsibility is to manage suppliers and ensure timely delivery of raw materials to the plant to meet our production schedule. Provide suppliers with necessary purchasing documentation, including purchase orders and regular reporting. Ensure system and data integrity in all areas of purchasing information management necessary to support the strategy. Work closely with key cross-functional internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Job Functions

  • Committed to providing highest degree of excellence in servicing customers.
  • Manage and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
  • Utilize accurate pricing and program knowledge to make intelligent and timely purchase/inventory decisions. Bring in the right material in the right quantity at the right time.
  • Combine purchase order quantities for best price when feasible and consistent with good purchasing/inventory control procedures.
  • Responsible for procurement of materials at the lowest cost in consideration of consistent quality, reliability of source and urgency of need.
  • Resolve all purchase order price variances in a timely basis.
  • Communicate and resolve quality issues with suppliers and obtain credits as applicable.
  • Develop new suppliers for plant controlled items through joint cooperation with Corporate Procurement.
  • Contribute ideas to improve our operation and promote cooperation among all employees within the operation.
  • Prepare purchase orders in a timely manner and ensure effective follow-up to expedite shipment and delivery. Obtain certification of delivery and shipment as required.
  • Monitor A/P late payments and resolve credit hold issues.
  • Closely monitor inventory levels during program phase-outs to minimize cost of obsolete material.
  • Create new systems or improve existing systems to optimize inventory management.
  • Facilitate MRO Purchasing.
  • Serve as backup for the Production Scheduler.

Education/Training Required

  • Minimum two-year degree or significant experience required in the area of discipline.
  • Business degree and CPIM Certification preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience purchasing packaging materials and chemicals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a manufacturing environment wit a high degree of emphasis on accountability for customer service levels, inventory management, cost reduction and quality/cGMP compliance.
  • Hands on technology skills include AS400, MS Office with emphasis on MS Excel.
  • Experience utilizing JD Edwards is a plus.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.
