Retail Business Services is the services company of leading grocery retail group Ahold Delhaize USA, currently providing services to five omnichannel grocery brands, including Food Lion, Giant Food, The GIANT Company, Hannaford and Stop & Shop.


Position Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to manage the Asset Protection distribution warehouse activities. Implement physical security guidelines to ensure facilities are considered a safe and secure environment for all associates and external parties. Ensure policies and procedures are monitored as it relates to product receiving and shipment. Conduct investigations into suspected or actual losses.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements and evaluates current and future Asset Protection strategies at assigned Distribution Center(s) for optimum efficiency and effectiveness in the areas of shrink and physical security. Be present at facilities to ensure strategies are being followed per policy. Continuously analyze process and procedure, submit recommendations to management and implement changes.
  • Manages, trains, and develops the in-house or third party security officer staff. Responds to and manages personnel issues. Involved in grievance process for union associates.
  • Review daily and weekly tasks of the security officers to ensure that all Asset Protection and operations responsibilities are handled correctly and completely to include logging of shipments and deliveries, recording of truck seals, and completion of required reports.
  • Protects assets and prevents theft in the distribution facilities through training, proactive measures, surveillance and effective use of physical security systems. Maintains Asset Protection awareness through participation in New Hire Orientations. Conducts investigations into suspected theft and other company violations. Conducts investigations into dishonesty, conducts interviews of involved individuals and makes decisions on prosecution of apprehended individuals.
  • Document, collect and maintain investigative files and evidence.
  • Conducts ongoing formal and informal physical security risk assessments at all facilities looking for signs of thefts and ensuring compliance with Company Policies. Determines and executes appropriate actions to minimize risk.
  • Manages visitor management procedures and other random checks such as parcel, vehicle or locker inspections.
  • Conducts training of associates and management in Workplace Violence/Active Shooter prevention and response. Coordinates drills with law enforcement agencies.
  • Through review of poor quality reports and review of product code dating in the warehouse, identify operational issues which may contribute to shrink.
  • Review inventory reports to include claims, destroys, and returns, etc. to identify opportunities for improvement or further investigation.
  • Conducts audits/spot checks of loads to address any operational issues which may contribute to loss such as improperly returned items from stores, food bank deliveries, etc. Communicates findings to store operations for corrective action.
  • Supports Distribution Operations by reviewing and providing video footage of incidents involving loss, damaged, safety incidents or other operational issues.
  • Partners with Quality Assurances to ensure adherence to Food Defense, FSMA, GFSI and SQF requirements.
  • Participates in facility Operational and Safety Committees.
  • Member of the facility Crisis Management Team. Responds to and provides appropriate Asset Protection personnel to support operations during unusual events such as power failures, weather issues, natural disasters, work stoppages, etc.
  • Manages the physical security of the facility and integrity of shipments in transit to the stores through audits, and tests of systems such as CCTV, alarms, card access and truck seals. On-call 24/7 for emergency issues.
  • Coordinates security for any special events.
  • Responsible for Distribution Asset Protection, security and safety activities. Prepares and submits weekly and period Asset Protection reports. Collaborates with internal Business Units such as Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Legal, Internal Audit and Information Security to establish and implement appropriate standards and controls associated with the Supply Chain processes. Acts as a Company liaison with Federal, State and Local law enforcement and emergency management officials.
  • Partners with the Brand Asset Protection and Operations to ensure shrink related concerns are addressed.
  • Prepares, manages and is responsible for the annual Asset Protection budget for appropriate distribution center(s).Manages and oversees the access control systems to ensure that individuals are properly badges, assigned appropriate levels of access and removing terminated associates from the system as necessary.
  • Manages the assignment of security officers based on the facilities needs and performance. Makes recommendations on security system (CCTV, access control, alarm and lock hardware) placement in distribution centers. Work with Human Resources and/or third party account management on the selection of the security officer staff.
  • This position is responsible for protecting sensitive customer, associate and company information by: maintaining an understanding of company information security practices and controls; adhering to information security policies; ensuring the proper use of sensitive information; ensuring that vendors for whom the incumbent is responsible adhere to company policies; and reporting policy violations or information security breaches.
  • Responsible for ensuring that his or her manager is aware of all circumstances in which he or she uses sensitive customer, associate and company information, and where and how such information is stored and protected.

Basic Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree
  • Loss Prevention Certified (LPC) designation preferred
  • 2-4 years of retail supermarket and/or distribution experience

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs particularly Excel
  • Strong computer abilities in order to access various security systems and reports
  • Effective multi-tasking and time management
  • Strong interpersonal skills as the position requires regular interaction with direct reports, facility associates, outside vendors and facility management
  • Ability to walk through the facility on an ongoing basis, accessing all areas of the building to include basement, roofs and mechanical rooms
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and direction to complete all required tasks
