What You'll Do:
As a Supplier Relationship Manager you will report into Procurement and be responsible for ensuring Principal effectively manages a group of our most important suppliers. You will focus on supplier performance, risk, strategist alignment, and spend management while also ensuring a strong working relationship between key Principal team members and supplier partners. You’ll work closely with Principal business leaders, sourcing, category management and third-party risk to drive a comprehensive understanding of the supplier and its product and services at Principal. Additionally, you’ll communicate transparently with the supplier regarding the health of the relationship, issues, and upcoming critical initiatives at Principal that align with the product and service offerings of the supplier.
  • Strategic Alignment & Innovation: Capture and communicate both internally and externally the strategic value Principal gains from partnering with the supplier. Align supplier incentives and Principal incentives to deliver on Principal’s strategy. Push the supplier to share innovation opportunities to create competitive advantage for Principal.
  • Performance: Partner with business leaders to understand the definition of strong performance and transparently communicate the definition to the supplier at the right frequency. This includes a strong understanding of service level agreements coming from the contract. Drive to the root cause on all material performance issues to resolve them efficiently and effectively. This should include corrective action to avoid recurring issues.
  • Risk: Partner with risk team members to understand supplier risk assessment, controls and mitigation. Ensure that the controls are in place to effectively mitigate risks. Maintain awareness of emerging risks for the supplier and the products/services Principal buys from the supplier.
  • Spend Control & Optimization: Understand budgeted spend for a product/service and progress against the budget. Monitor and communicate with business stakeholders about spend overages, credits, and opportunities to drive expense down in partnership with suppliers.

Who You Are:
  • Bachelor’s degree or 8+ years of work experience.
  • 3+ years of work experience in sourcing, category management or supplier management
  • Must possess analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large executive level meetings with clear agendas, action items, and follow-up
  • Strong prioritization skills with ability drive tasks to completion
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas simply and concisely to drive toward decisions and action through both verbal and written interactions
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Salary Range Information: Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salary Range: $77350 - $147600 / year Time Off Program: Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided. Additional Information:

Work Environments

This role offers remote, in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) in the Des Moines, IA or Charlotte, NC offices. You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors
