Overview
The Supplier Development Engineer interfaces with Program Management, Supply Chain, and Product Engineering regarding supplier manufacturing, source selection and delivery issues to provide guidance to our team. In addition to providing production support, this role will create detailed quote packages and drive quotations to completion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support Sales team and Program Manager by identifying and quoting manufacturing sources for new part number opportunities.
- Ensure all required technical data is available – drawings, specifications, models
- Match technical requirements of parts to specific suppliers.
- Facilitate RFQ’s and source selection – send out RFQ, track quote response, evaluate incoming supplier quotes, make recommendation for supplier.
- If a quote is not available, estimate part costs based on similar parts history for ROM quote to customer.
- Identify opportunities for improved pricing or lead time.
- Coordinate handoff of quote and any open technical or commercial issues to buyer at Production Release.
- Support Purchasing by identifying manufacturing sources for existing parts that need to be re-sourced.
- Review incumbent supplier history – focused on delivery & quality, and any technical issues.
- Facilitate RFQ’s and source selection as above.
- Communicate lessons learned from incumbent supplier with prospective supplier, within proprietary limitations
- Attend Production Release and kick-off meeting for new supplier, stay involved as needed for technical coordination.
- Supplier technical support on open projects.
- Provide technical interpretations on drawings and specifications (first line of defense)
- For more complex technical issues, liaison with Extex quality and engineering individuals to get supplier the technical support they need.
- Keep Extex buyer and supplier POC informed of status, roadblocks, solutions, and impact to schedule.
- This activity can start in the RFQ phase and continue after contract award.
- Identify, assess, and set up new suppliers as needed.
- Contact supplier to gage interest, manufacturing capability, open capacity, and aerospace quality system.
- Set up supplier in system –Restricted Party Screening (export), Non-Disclosure Agreement(s), MRP (Quantum)
- Send RFQ’s, evaluate quotes as described above.
- Notify Quality of new supplier for mail-in audit and conditional approval
- Notify Finance to approve transactions with new supplier.
Qualifications
Education: BS Degree in Business Administration, Engineering or related degrees.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of engineering, Supplier Development in a manufacturing environment. Aerospace environment is preferred.

- Ability to use computer, microsot office suite and planning software
