NIST works with industry and science to advance innovation and improve quality of life. We're looking for a Supervisory Mathematician to join our team!
This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.Qualifications: Basic Requirements:
A. Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
The total course work in either A or B above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.
In addition to the above basic requirements: Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of the specialized experience at the GS-14 level (ZP-IV at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated research experience in mathematical modeling of physical systems. Experience in the technical leadership of research projects. Experience with applied mathematics and scientific computing. Experience with computer programming in scientific programming languages and systems. Experience with scientific collaborations.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
