Supervisory Employee Benefits Investigator

The mission of the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) is to ensure the security of retirement, health and other workplace related benefits of American workers and their families. Each office initiates, executes, and coordinates civil/criminal investigations of alleged violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) and conducts investigations of all types of employee benefit plans.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-13, in the Federal Service.  Specialized experience is experience that is generally in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.  For this position, specialized experience would include the provision of legal, auditing or accounting services, administration, development, analysis or oversight of complex laws such as ERISA, Federal securities laws, tax laws, banking laws or other financial service related laws.

Specialized experience may have been gained in government, pension and health benefit plan administration, or a consulting firm, law firm, actuarial or accounting firm, labor union, health and pension trade association or research service, bank trust department, brokerage firms, insurance companies or investment firm.

Examples of qualifying experience include:

Experience as a compliance inspector, analyst, planner or investigator whose work related to the field of employee benefit plans and/or Federal and/or state financial regulatory statutes. Experience in closely related occupations involving specialized work directly involved in assessing or assuring finance-related regulatory compliance such as financial auditing, provided the experience clearly demonstrated the application of (1) knowledge of the laws, regulations and administrative procedures involved in assessing and assuring compliance and (2) skill in the use of techniques and methods for the identification and correction of regulatory violations. Professional legal work, a substantial portion of which required interpretation of Federal laws and legal requirements concerning health and pension plans or in such related fields as labor law, taxation, securities, real estate, corporations, trusts, bankruptcy, and investments. Professional auditing and accounting work that involved determining compliance with Federal and State laws governing health and pension plans, securities, banking, insurance or corporations. Analysis of Federal laws or regulations, or development of policy involving an employee benefit plan or a related function.

In addition to the foregoing, to be considered minimally qualified, your application must demonstrate knowledge of ERISA and Supervisory or Managerial abilities.

Education:

There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-14 level for this position.
