Job Description
1. Supervises the delivery of Ultrasound services, in accordance with established standards and procedures for the service area; recommends changes and improvements relating to the delivery of services, as appropriate.
2. Plans, schedules, coordinates and reviews the day-to-day activities of the area to ensure continuous flow of work and optimize productivity.
3. Supervises ultrasound staff and other appropriate personnel; provides training, assigns work, evaluates performance and initiates and/or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
4. Works with departmental leadership to ensure department runs efficiently and effectively with appropriate level of staffing and equipment. Assists in recruitment, selection and orientation of new staff, as required.
5. Reviews ultrasound methods and procedures and makes recommendations for improvement, as appropriate. Participates in formulating policies and procedures regarding standards of care for the department.
6. Serves as a resource to ultrasound staff and other health care personnel on matters pertaining to ultrasound activities, quality improvement initiatives and other relevant activities within the Ultrasound Department.
7. Participates in the development of Ultrasound training programs and educational activities for ultrasound and other appropriate personnel; evaluates and monitors effectiveness of programs to ensure successful functioning and efficiency.
8. Participates in quality control procedures, including equipment performance testing, in accordance with the established Quality Control Program. Recommends the purchase of new imaging equipment, supplies and materials, as needed.
9. Performs the work of the Ultrasound Technologist and Associate Ultrasound Technologist and other related duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Completion of the NYC Health + Hospitals Supervisory training within three (3) months of appointment; and
2. Valid certification in Sonography issued by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI); and
- a. Two (2) years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
- b. Three (3) years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist.
