SCHOOL BOARD OF ALACHUA COUNTY, FLORIDA SUPERVISOR I – BUILDING SERVICES JOB DESCRIPTION JOB CODE: 790072 BARGAINING UNIT ELIGIBILITY: No FLSA: Exempt PAY GRADE: 09 CONTRACT CODE: 05 SALARY SCHEDULE: Administrative QUALIFICATIONS: (1) Bachelor's degree from an approved accredited educational institution; and (2) Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience, including substantial experience in facility maintenance, utilities and custodial fields; or (3) An equivalent combination of education and training, with a minimum of ten (10) years combined experience in the construction and maintenance fields and a minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience in Building Services, including Utilities and Custodial fields. (4) Certified Energy Manager, preferred. (5) Certification as a Master Custodian, preferred. (6) Completion of State required course work for educational facilities (SREF), preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Florida School Laws, regulations, local School Board policies and procedures. Knowledge of applicable building regulatory codes, ordinances and procedures. Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment and practices of various construction and maintenance trades. Knowledge of the equipment and facilities of the school district. Decision-making ability within the framework of the position. Ability to develop and monitor the District’s energy management/sustainability program under Board policy and related guidelines. Ability to effectively communicate Building Services and practices to District personnel. Ability to maintain complex records, to assemble and organize data and to prepare reports. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Skill in planning, organizing, and presenting information to diverse audiences. Ability to supervise and instruct maintenance and custodial personnel. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff and private individuals contacted in the course of work. REPORTS TO: Director – Energy Systems JOB GOAL To provide effective services so District facilities and grounds are safe, clean, attractive, comfortable, and provide an efficient environment in which students can learn and work. SUPERVISES: Assigned Personnel A SUPERVISOR I – BUILDING SERVICES (Continued) PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: *(1) Assist in administering all activities necessary for the operation and improvement of the District’s Building Services and custodial programs. *(2) Act on behalf of the Direct of Energy Systems upon their absence from the District and at other times upon request. *(3) Work closely with the Director to disseminate information to principals, administrators, and custodial staff regarding their buildings’ energy consumption, sustainability, recycling and custodial services. *(4) Provide support and technical assistance to the school facilities, Building Services, and safety programs. *(5) Oversees and monitor the work of Head Custodians, maintain a safe, comfortable, functional and clean environment for building occupants and reliable and cost-effective custodial services for the district. *(6) Plan, develop, organize, manage and direct a quality Building Services and custodial operations program for the District. *(7) Guides and oversees all custodial operations at assigned work sites; including buildings, and custodial training program. *(8) Plan, promote, supervise and organize training programs for personnel at all levels in the Building Services program. *(9) Instruct personnel in safety programs and the use of tools and equipment. *(10) Coordinate custodial schedules and checklists for all buildings in the District. *(11) Maintain time, material and productivity records of work orders. *(12) Oversee the timely ordering of materials to provide an adequate flow of supplies to the worksites. *(13) Coordinate work with other departments and the schools working closely with administration to support school/department facilities planning and maintenance. *(14) Assist with the departmental budget, equipment purchasing and the bid process. *(15) Coordinate the implementation of new and ongoing projects. *(16) Assist in the establishment of job classifications and personnel guidelines as necessary. *(17) Assist in the development of appropriate Board agenda items pertaining to areas of responsibility. *(18) Demonstrate proactive leadership and effective management skills to motivate and gain commitment of staff to facilitate task accomplishment. *(19) Utilize appropriate strategies to make decisions regarding planning, utilization of funds, delivering services and evaluation of services provided. *(20) Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions. *(21) Be knowledgeable of and adhere to Board policies. *(22) Assist in the interpretation of programs, philosophy and policies of the district to staff, students, parents and the community. *(23) Monitor district compliance with applicable codes, rules and statutes. *(24) Keep abreast of legal requirements and proposed changes in areas of responsibility and provide advice to the supervisor as to their impact on the District. *(25) Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and take appropriate action. Keep Supervisor Informed of potential problems or unusual events. A SUPERVISOR I – BUILDING SERVICES (Continued) *(26) Attend meetings and conferences to promote professional growth and benefit the District. *(27) Maintain expertise in the assigned area to fulfill project goals and objectives. *(28) Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain updated and accurate records. *(29) Interact with parents, outside agencies, business and community to enhance the understanding of district initiatives and priorities and to elicit support and assistance. *(30) Communicate effectively with the public, staff members, administrators, and other contact persons using tact and good judgment. *(31) Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner. *(32) Represent the district in a positive and professional manner and demonstrate support for the school district and its goals and priorities. *(33) Model and maintain high ethical standards. *(34) Adhere to applicable safety standards. *(35) Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules. *(36) Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters. *(37) Serve on district, state or community councils or committees as assigned or appropriate. (38) Perform other duties as assigned.
