What you get to do:
The Horticulture Supervisor is responsible for the performance and oversight of specialized horticultural duties involving planning, preparing and developing plant production from receiving, planting inventory and growing annuals (irrigation, feeding, pest management and environmental control). You will also:
- Perform diverse horticultural, grounds keeping and greenhouse tasks, such as watering, weeding, planting, transplanting, pruning, mulching, and mowing
- Forecast the space and usage of the greenhouse, based on seasonal crops and the demand/availability with suppliers
- Inspect areas for plant damage, insects, pests and disease and coordinate with Spray Technicians and Horticulture Manager to take action on solving issues
- Plan, coordinate and supervise activities of team and assigned projects
- Provide supervision and training of ambassadors in carrying out grounds keeping operations and provide performance feedback, counseling, and developmental discussions
- Responsible for labor management, including but not limited to, monitoring labor expenses, scheduling and requests of team, and ensuring accuracy of ambassadors’ payroll records
- Operate equipment: augers, trimmers, shears, tillers, utility carts, water tanks, tractors, forklift, etc
- Perform tasks related to cold-weather protection as well as preparation for storms and perform repair work for any weather damage or other damage
- Create and maintain various reports as requested by the department
- Perform cleaning tasks so as to maintain a safe, clean, professional workplace
- Perform other duties as assigned
What it Takes to Succeed:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 3 years greenhouse/nursery experience
- At least 18 years old
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and organize work crews to carry out operations effectively
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changes in a fast paced work environment
- Ability to work in water up to chin deep with flotation device in order to maintain horticultural displays adjacent to waterways
- Ability to stand for long period of time
- Ability to bend, kneel and climb repetitively
- Ability to lift, push and pull 50 pounds
- Comfortable with heights
- Comfortable working around chemicals
- Comfortable working around fumes/dust/odor
- Comfortable with exposure to noise, vibrations and motion

- Ability to train on and properly use protective gear
- Ability to work indoors/outdoors in all weather conditions and temperature extremes
- Available to work varying shifts/hours based on business need, to include opening, mid-, and closing shifts; nights, weekends, and holidays
