Summary of Purpose
Directs activities of the buildings/grounds staff in the operations and maintenance services of the campus. Responsible for oversight of all custodial and Grounds activities including maintenance of all mechanical equipment pertaining to building and Grounds activities with frequent contact with Administration, faculty, and staff, and periodic contact with vendors, supplier representatives, and contractors. This position is expected to work in a multi-cultural diverse working environment.
Typical Duties

- Supervises custodial and Grounds personnel assigned to the campus.
- Ensures that appropriate equipment and supplies are available to the custodial and Grounds staff; requests additional equipment and supplies from Superintendent, Buildings & Grounds or Chief, Campus Facility Operations.
- Works cooperatively with Facilities Operations in areas of internal and external projects and service work.
- Assists Superintendent, Buildings and Grounds or Chief, Campus Facility Operations in evaluating performance of custodial and Grounds employees; maintains appropriate records.
- Provides orientation, instruction, and training for employees under his/her supervision at with direction from Superintendent, Buildings and Grounds and/or Chief, Campus Facility Operations.
- Inspects work completed by subordinates for satisfactory completion.
- Complies with MIOSHA regulations with regard to plant operations; reports incidents or concerns to appropriate campus administration.
- Prepares and distributes reports, as needed.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
- Ability to work additional hours, as needed.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Experience in use of computers and software applications
- Knowledge of problem solving and troubleshooting
- Skill in both verbal and written communication
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Ability to handle physical demands (e.g., extensive walking, lift heavy objects, etc.)
Minimum Education and Experience
EDUCATION: Associate's degree or 80 completed credit hours from an accredited
college/university.
EXPERIENCE: Experience in custodial, grounds keeping, and/or and shipping and receiving
with a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory/management experience.
