Position: Part-Time Supervising Teacher & K-12 Enrichment Teacher for Mid-Prairie Home School Assistance Program
Wage: $25.55/ hour
Hours Per Week: 10-20/week (Please note the desired time per week in cover letter)

JOB EXPECTATIONS
K-12 Enrichment Teacher is responsible for developing classes and teaching students one day a week in multi-aged classrooms at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Ideal candidates will have backgrounds or experience in teaching high school science, middle school STEM, and/or elementary school. Enrichment Teachers also support field trips, building-wide special events, and attend monthly planning meetings.
These are the responsibilities and expectations of a Supervising Teacher working for the Mid-Prairie Home School Assistance Program. This person must also be willing to perform duties other than those listed below as assigned by any director.
I. SUPERVISORY:
A. Be certified or licensed by the Iowa Department of Instruction as a teacher practitioner for all age levels under the supervision and demonstrate proficiency in the 8 Iowa Teaching Standards & Criteria
B. Be knowledgeable and supportive of various approaches and philosophies in regards to home schooling
C. Initiate required contacts with families per Iowa State law: "provide instruction or instructional supervision for and have contact with the child and the child's parent, guardian, or legal custodian at least four times per quarter during the period of instruction. One of every two contacts shall be face-to-face with the student under competent private instruction." [Iowa Code: 281-31.3a(299)]
D. Consult with and advise the student's parent, guardian, or legal custodian with respect to the following during the course of the year's visits: [Iowa Code: 281-31.3b(299)]
1. Lesson plans
2. Textbooks and supplementary materials
3. Setting educational goals and objectives
4. Teaching techniques and learning styles
5. Forms of student assessment and evaluation (informal and formal)
6. Diagnosing students' strengths and weaknesses
7. Interpretation of test results
8. Record keeping, and
9. Other duties as requested and agreed upon
E. Provide formal and informal assessments of student progress to the student and the students' parents, legal guardians, or legal custodians [Iowa Code: 281-31.3c(299)]
F. Make referral of any student for whom there is reason to believe is a child in need of special education [Iowa Code: 281-31.3e(299)]
II. CLERICAL:
A. Annually maintain a confidential diary, record, or log of visits and assistance provided to families [Iowa Code: 281-31.3d(299)]
B. Keep a monthly timesheet that fulfills the Mid-Prairie school board requirement for a record of meetings and contacts with families. The Description of Activity section shall include:
1. The name of the families, when contacted, the type of activity involved
2. The type of program responsibilities performed during the month
III. PROGRAM:
Program responsibilities could include any or all of the following:
A. Administrative Meetings
1. Participate in HSAP Supervising Teachers meetings as appropriate
2. Carefully read, organize, and respond to all communication sent electronically from meetings
3. Mid-Prairie in-service meetings as appropriate
4. State Home School meetings
B. Research
1. Research materials or approaches necessary to support families, students, classes, etc.
C. Monitor Students
1. Display confidentiality with every student's academic and behavior progress
2. Support positive behavior
3. Work alongside parents to meet the needs and challenges of students and to celebrate their successes
IV. PUBLIC RELATIONS/COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
A. Maintain good rapport with students, parents, co-workers, school, and community members
B. Observe confidentiality in regard to families, students, and staff
C. Speak and write clearly and correctly
D. Answer questions about homeschooling and the Mid-Prairie Home School Assistance Program to interested families
E. Be conscientious about thoroughly communicating with all parties affected by a particular event or activity
F. Handle delicate issues carefully
