GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
The Plexi shop is primarily responsible for the fabrication, installation and maintenance of Plexiglas vitrines used throughout the museum for the display of art. In addition, they are responsible for fabric-wrapping blocks, panels and decks for art installations. They are also responsible for the fabrication of display material for the retail department.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Check in daily with Supervisor
  • Fabricate Plexiglas vitrines
  • Install, repair and maintain plexi vitrines
  • Fabric wrap decks, panels etc.
  • Operate and maintain machinery assigned to shop
  • Other related duties

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience & Skills:
  • A minimum of 3 years Carpentry experience required
  • Plexiglas experience a plus
  • Knowledge of adhesives and solvents a plus
  • Maintenance of shop equipment/machinery a must
Knowledge and Education:
  • High School graduate or equivalency
  • Previous Plexiglas experience
  • Previous Plexiglas experience preferred
  • Knowledge of machinery such as band saw, table saw, panel saw and other required.
COMPENSATION RANGE
  • Pay Range: $31.20625/ Hourly
  • Incumbent Pay Range: $37.12308
  • The advertised starting salary rate reflects the good faith minimum and maximum hourly rate for this role. Starting salary rates are set in accordance with established union rates provided by the economic agreement as established and negotiated by DC 37 and the City of New York, Office of Labor Relations. Incumbent rates may vary depending on an individual employee’s seniority status, and/or based on terms as provided by the DC 37 Local 1503 and Museum collective bargaining agreement.
Location Requirements
At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
