Under the general direction of the California Geologic Energy Management Division’s (CalGEM)Underground Injection Control (UIC), Supervising Oil and Gas Engineer, the Supervising Engineering Geologist will act in a specialist capacity. The position will act as the responsible charge for the review and approval of submitted geologic work including, but not limited to, UIC reviews, complex geologic project reviews, and aquifer exemption evaluations. The incumbent will provide essential leadership and coordination in the review and completion of complex geologic projects, and will be involved with planning, organizing, managing, and delivering complex geologic work. This position will require the incumbent to exercise good judgement and communicate effectively with CalGEM management and staff and will act as responsible charge and mentor for geologic work performed by CalGEM’s unlicensed geologic and engineering staff.

Working Conditions

This position is located in Bakersfield and is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. Employees must reside in California and be able to satisfactorily perform their essential work functions independently and remotely. At least three days of remote work and two days of onsite work per week is the available hybrid telework schedule depending on department needs.


Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview but must show proof of residence in California prior to being eligible for appointment.
