About the Role
Wirecutter is looking for a Supervising Editor to manage the publication of reader-serving deals content.
As a Supervising Editor on the deals team, you will report directly to the deals senior editor and be accountable for the editorial direction and workflow of deals content. You will have the potential to be remote, but the Supervising Editor will be expected to keep East Coast working hours.
Responsibilities:
  • Work with senior editor to set the strategy for the deals team
  • Apply a process-oriented approach to the daily operations of deal posting at Wirecutter, develop and refine new deal sourcing and posting strategies, and edit and revise deals post content
  • Work collaboratively with senior editor to contribute original ideas to deal event planning, and suggest and implement creative reporting strategies
  • Oversee on-site deals page, articles, and off-platform content; manage deadlines; collaborate with audience team on strategy
  • Serve as the people manager for deals team members, approving timecards and expense reports and doing mid-year and annual reviews
  • Take a caring, thoughtful approach to supporting deals writers' career development; collaborate with and coach writers rather than overwriting their work
  • Oversee hiring and onboarding of freelance support staff as needed
  • Perform related work as assigned

Basic Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience working at a media company with at least two years of experience in deals vetting in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to discern what's essential and what's unnecessary in deals coverage area, and show passion for the topic balanced by skepticism of marketing and unproven claims
  • Extensive project and process management experience, including planning and working in a fast-paced editorial environment
  • Strong shopping or commerce knowledge

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple workflows

The annual base pay range for this role is between $92,700 and $109,000.
