Job description

ABLE Summer Learning is a K-12 youth and education-focused seasonal AmeriCorps program operated by The Service Collaborative. We are currently recruiting for positions with West Side Community Services.

ABLE Members will support daily K-12 Youth Programming, and provide academic support and tutoring in math and/or literacy weekly. Members also complete weekly intervention reporting logs throughout their service. At their host sites, members support, mentor, and lead youth in meaningful summer programming. This summer, ABLE member support is especially essential due to the varied disruptions in schooling for youth since the pandemic began.

The Summer Youth Program Specialist will be an integral part of our summer camp. Daily, the Specialist will
be responsible for the wellbeing and support of children in grades K-6
Essential responsibilities include:
-Creating a safe and nurturing environment for WSCS youth
-Leading physically engaging activities
-Designing and implementing engaging recreational activities
-Working with cohort of youth as required by ABLE program
-Conducting evaluations
-Participating in professional development and team building activities
-Other duties as assigned

Members serve 8-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week), for a 300-hour-minimum term of service beginning in late June.

Members receive the following benefits:

  • 4 Bi-weekly paychecks of $1,054.58 before taxes
  • AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,459.26 upon successful completion of 300 hours

West Side Community Services (WSCS) fosters the well-being of our vibrant and dynamic community by engaging, connecting and supporting its residents. We offer year-round human services for community members of all ages including children birth to age 5, school-age youth, families, and seniors. We operate a market-style food pantry, Provisions 139. WSCS operates from our lower west side campus, as well as at satellite locations throughout Buffalo, and serves thousands of Buffalonians annually.
