About the Adler Planetarium
The Adler Planetarium connects people to the universe and each other. Whether it is introducing a guest to the Ring Nebula, a neighborhood school to a community partner, a research team to a network of citizen scientists, or one staff member to another, the Adler’s focus on meaningful connections dates back nearly a century.
Today, the museum hosts more than half a million visitors each year and reaches millions more through youth STEM programs, neighborhood skywatching events, online citizen science, and other outreach projects. With the Adler’s support, people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities gain the confidence to explore their universe together and return to their communities ready to think critically and creatively about any challenge that comes their way.
The Position
The Adler Planetarium is seeking young people currently enrolled in high school for our Summer Internship. In this role, interns will explore what it takes to work in a museum and in STEM fields, communicate with peers and colleagues, and navigate professional settings. Interns will work 25 hours per week. Interns will also be responsible for:
Participating in professional development as a cohort with Teen Programs Staff
Engaging in learning and creating with peers
Fulfilling work duties assigned by the department of placement, which may include:
Using computers and audiovisual equipment to create space visualizations
Assisting in science writing and communication, social media, and design/photography
Promoting science education while learning marketing strategies
Conducting research to help reduce light pollution
Communicating consistently and effectively with staff and peers about project progress and challenges

The Person
This position requires candidates to be curious about discovering job opportunities in museums and stepping into a real-world job; enthusiastic about interacting with Adler visitors, staff, and peers; and excited to learn and grow in this role.
Required Qualifications:
Enrolled in high school during the 2023-2024 school year (current 8th graders or college students are ineligible to apply)
Must be available Mondays - Fridays from July 8th – August 14th, 2024 between 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Eligible to work in the United States
