~ 32 - 36 Hours a week ~
Maine Medical Center is offering temporary full-time summer employment to Nursing Students (CNAs) who will be entering their senior year through approximately a 10-week summer program. From the beginning of June to the middle of August, you will work in our caring, nurturing environment under the guidance of experienced registered nurses within our clinical settings.
As a participant in the MMC Summer Student Nurse Associate program you will observe firsthand, the dynamics of collaborative nursing practice and to begin the transition of student to professional nurse. Transitioning from the classroom to a career can be challenging. You can get a head start on your nursing career by taking advantage of this unique opportunity!
Eligibility:
The Summer Student Nurse Associate program is open to any nursing student who meets one of the following criteria:
  • Successful completion of the junior year of a BSN nursing program, and be on the State of Maine CNA Registry.
  • Successful completion of the first year of an ADN program, and be on the State of Maine CNA Registry.

While not required, including a resume/CV with your application is preferred.
Nursing students who are interested in year round/regular status employment at MMC, and are Certified Nursing Assistants on the Maine State Registry are encouraged to apply for any of our other open positions as a Certified Nursing Assistant/CNA.
Position Summary
The Summer Student Nurse Associate, under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse and according to defined policies and procedures, performs various service duties and technical tasks such as taking vital signs and assisting patients with basic hygiene and activities of daily living. Specific duties may vary by area of assignment. Consideration of the special needs and behaviors of specific patient populations is required.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  1. Education: Participates in continuing education relative to role as defined.
  2. License/Certifications: Must be certified as a Nursing Assistant by the State of Maine and be on the State of Maine Registry, having completed a six-week or equivalent course.
  3. Experience: N/A
  4. Ability to read, write, and speak English in order to follow oral or written instructions and complete standard forms.
  5. Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations.
  6. Interpersonal skills necessary to exchange information and maintain courteous relationships with patients, families, visitors, and Maine Medical Center employees.
  7. Knowledge of standards, policies, procedures and organizational structure of the unit, the Department of Nursing, and Maine Medical Center.
