TITLE: SCIENCE TEACHER - CHEMISTRY
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid California Credential (Single subject physical science or single subject science: chemistry); EL Certification Required
JOB GOAL: To teach one or more classes of chemistry to pupils in grades 9-12 and assist in other school programs as assigned.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Teach scientific skills and knowledge through courses in chemistry, utilizing California State Standards and other appropriate learning activities.
• Plan a balanced science instructional program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions and student experiments; organize laboratory activities and procedures for optimum learning.
• Demonstrate scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches and other instructional aids.
• Provide individual or small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously.
• Instruct pupils in proper use, care and safe handling of chemicals, science equipment.
• Provide safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse. Make minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as needed.
• Select and request books, instructional aids, scientific equipment, chemicals, glassware and supplies and maintain inventory records as required.
• Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district or in self-selected professional growth activities.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as necessary or assigned.
• Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
• Communicate with parents and school counselors on individual pupil's progress.
• Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
• Perform basic attendance accounting and clerical tasks as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications
Candidates must possess a Bachelors degree in Science: Chemistry; a valid California Teaching credential in Science: Chemistry; EL Certification; valid TB clearance.
