TITLE: Orton-Gillingham Plus Training (OGT) Professional Development
FUNDING SOURCE: Grant Funded
SCHEDULE: June 24 - June 28 (Monday-Friday) (Up to 8 hours/day)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Orton-Gillingham approach introduces the idea of breaking reading and spelling down into smaller skills involving letters and sounds and then building these skills over time. To properly teach OGT teachers must complete specialized training. Programs used will incorporate the use of the Science of Reading research to drive all instruction so that educators are equipped with the tools, resources, and skills they need to integrate research-based, explicit, systematic, and multi-sensory instruction into their curriculum.
This course is geared towards: General and special education teachers K-2 in addition to grades 3rd and beyond whose students require instruction in word recognition skills (e.g., phonology, decoding, spelling). This course can also be taken by any educator who wants to learn more about instruction in phonology and orthography.
This position is open to all BTA members. Priority is given to Special Education Professionals. There are a total of eighteen (18) spots available.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Gain knowledge of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy
  2. Gain knowledge about students with reading difficulties such as dyslexia
  3. Understand how EL students can best learn English
  4. Identify and administer various types of assessments
  5. Implement and create structured literacy lessons

**For virtual training, one person per device, per room for this training in order to ensure the quality of the training and full participation. Breakout rooms will be selected at random.

SALARY: $500 stipend to be paid upon completion of classroom requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: This will be a remote position.
