Our Internship Program: Our 2024 Summer Internship Program is a paid 12-week internship program, scheduled to begin on June 3, 2024. Interns are expected to work full-time throughout the summer.
Summer interns will join an intern class consisting of undergraduate and graduate students to work on exciting projects in one of EDC's many dynamic departments. Summer Interns will also participate in training programs, networking events, and other professional development opportunities over the course of the program.

Department Overview: NYCEDC's Asset Management (AM) Division manages the overall strategy for conventional and non-traditional assets across all five boroughs of New York City including commercial real estate properties as well as transportation, critical infrastructure, and energy assets. The Asset Management division pursues a double-bottom line strategy, targeting not just economic returns but also multiple social metrics including but not limited to job creation and growing equitable neighborhoods. The overall assets are divided into multiple portfolios, each managed by an Asset Manager/SVP, with a Business Operations department that monitors and enforces standards and practices across the portfolio.
The Asset Management, Waterfront Team coordinates with all the New York City agency Departments to perform various inspection projects across the 320 miles of city owned waterfront. Our job is to perform inspections in accordance with the 2016 NYC (EDC) Waterfront Inspection manual and saving reports via the Waterfront Facilities Maintenance Management System (WFMMS). Once reports are complete EDC coordinates with the various agencies and consultants to review estimates and prioritize capital repair projects based off the findings from the reports.
Intern Responsibilities:
- Provide QA/ QC support for various reports from the Division (e.g., Inspection, Rehab Project Estimates, and Meets and Boundary Surveys.
- Upload reports and action items into the Waterfront Facilities Maintenance Management system (WFMMS)
- Digitize structural Systems and Components from inspection reports using ESRI GIS format.
- Assist in the procurement of contracted services.
- Support the development of new systems and tools to improve project management and project support workflows.
- Assist with site inspection reporting and creation of field manuals.
- Participate in project management, insurance, and arrears meetings.
- General exposure to NYCEDC's asset portfolio, with other tasks as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Preferred field(s) of study: Eligible applicants include any undergrad or graduate student currently enrolled in a real estate, business, urban planning, city planning, economic development, urban studies, transportation, logistics, or related program
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of NYCEDC
- Proven ability in using database and presentation tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage deadlines
- Proactive and able to work in collaborative, cross-functional teams
- Must be able to work full-time and complete the entirety of the 12-week program
Salary Target: $18.50/hour (undergraduate-level students); $23.50/hour (graduate-level students)
