Job Summary
Hiring Range: $15-$17/hour
The Olathe Fire Department (OFD) seeks a motivated, degree seeking high school or college student for an internship that will provide an opportunity for gaining knowledge, training and experience related to the fire service. Candidates will work closely with various sections and programs which may include fire operations, special operations, EMS, public education, fire prevention, emergency management, and homeland security.
High School Student:
Education: High School Student
Experience: Current High School Student with an interest in Fire Service.
College Student:
Education: High school diploma required; college coursework in public administration, community health, or related field preferred.
Experience: Sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate standing, graduate students and recent graduates considered. Excellent communication and writing skills required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with staff on various projects and programs
  • Share key safety and preparedness messages with the public in a variety of settings
  • Build relationships that foster continued collaboration with community groups

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Schedule: Potential for flexible work schedule 3-5 days per week during the summer. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required.
Must successfully pass a background investigation, pre-employment physical and drug screen.
