Summer Camp Division Leaders
Asphalt Green is a non-profit sports and fitness center with two locations – Upper East Side and Battery Park City. We run a Summer Day Camp program that focuses on building character, confidence, and community. The program is offered to children ranging in age from 4 to 13 years old. Camp runs from Thursday, June 27th to Friday, August 16th (no camp 7/4 & 7/5). Camp staff is required to be on the premises by 7:50 am and the day is over by 5:00 pm. Lunch is provided.
We are looking for energetic and responsible individuals to fill Division Leader positions for our Summer Day Camp 2024. Division Leaders oversee up to 6 groups of campers (about 15-18 campers per group) along with approximately 4-7 Head Counselors and 10-14 General Counselors. They will have heavy interaction with camper-parents who are vocal and can be quite demanding. Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Engage with campers, keeping daily notes and handling any camper issues within your division
- Maintain open communication channels with parents via verbal and written mediums, resolving issues in a timely manner
- Follow and enforce all health and safety protocols
- Collaborate with camp management to train and evaluate Head, General, and Junior Counselors
- Manage/ coach a team of counselors ensuring expectation levels are being met, correcting behavior where necessary, and reporting issues to camp management
- Evaluate staff to encourage development in performance and skills
- Observe programming and act as quality control to ensure all programs are carried out the Asphalt Green Summer Day Camp standards
- Lead weekly activities with groups
- Hold daily division meetings with counselors
- Maintain counselor attendance records
- Promote Asphalt Green Summer Day Camp value program
- Lead and organize all camp and divisional assemblies
- Cultivate camp culture by collaborating with camp management team in any special event planning and execution
NOTE: All summer camp employees are required to attend orientation prior to the start of the program, plus any pre-camp or in-season meetings as deemed necessary by camp management. Dates to be announced.
Qualified candidates will be teachers with 2-3 years of classroom experience, guidance counselors or school psychologists. Previous experience working in a camp management capacity is desirable. Leadership and problem-solving skills are critical for success in this position. Must have patience and stamina as the days are busy and long. CPR certified a plus.
Stipend for the Position is $8,125
