Description

The Louis S. Wolk Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester is located alongside the Erie Canal in Brighton. It is a 200,000 square foot facility that houses our state-of-the-art fitness, wellness and recreation programming, an aquatics center, a Professional Theatre (live stream), Children’s Center and ourPremier Camping Program! The 2024Summer Days at the Jprogram offers all the fun of a classic day camp. Located on our main campus, we welcome all campers into a safe community of respect and inclusion where each child is encouraged to shine.

Summer is short and goes by quickly so we are looking for individuals that can commit to working for the full summer session – June 24 – August 23.Time off will be given on a case-by-case basis and must be discussed with the Director prior to the start of employment. Camp staff must attend Staff Trainings scheduled:

  • Attend Staff Training

  • June 24, 25 9 am – 1pm (Monday, Tuesday)

  • June 26-28, 8am – 5pm (Wednesday-Friday)

  • Commitment for the full summer session is required

Once training has concluded, work hours areMonday – Friday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, for the full summer session.

General Job Summary:

TheDrama Arts Specialistwill create and lead activities that provide children with the opportunity to try new things, find new skills and develop an appreciation of Drama Arts. Advance the mission of the camp through the development and delivery of focused activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Create and lead age-appropriate Drama Arts activities and games focused on fun and self-expression for all levels of ability

  • Supervise, lead, and organize 10-20 campers while coordinating activities with Counselors

  • Promote positive group dynamics for safe, fun and team-building Drama Arts activities

  • Collaborate with counselors each week to help assigned group to create and rehearse Shabbat programing performance.

  • Work collaboratively with counselors while leading programs, setting expectations and sharing responsibilities during outdoor programs

  • Provide guidance and growth opportunities for counselors

  • Observe children’s behavior, and assess, instruct and guide for appropriateness

  • Enforce safety regulations regarding both physical and emotional safety. Follow all COVID safety protocols

  • Actively participate in program activities while maintaining control of the group during activities

  • Support the full team by assisting other program specialists and working as a float counselor when needed

  • Act as a positive role model for all children and staff

  • Provide guidance and opportunities for professional growth for staff

  • Keep assigned areas clean and tidy and take responsibility for proper care of equipment used in activities

  • Supervise the safe and structured arrival and departure of children

  • Provide additional supervision to swim staff during swim times

  • Attend all Summer Days at the J events, including staff training, staff meetings, and professional development

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED (must be at least 18 years of age)

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with elementary school aged children

  • Experience in creating and following lesson plans, preferred

Certifications:

  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (will be given opportunity to take certification course)

  • Ability to assist children in an emergency situation.

  • Possess the strength, endurance and vigilance required to supervise children constantly.

  • Ambulatory ability to manage uneven ground, hills, and steps.

  • Ability to lift a child repetitively weighing between 10-15lbs and occasionally up to 50lbs.

  • Ability to swim in the pool and be active on the playground

  • Ability to kneel, bend, squat, stand, and sit on the floor or on child-size furniture for prolonged periods of time
